Ben Lowndes, founder of Distinctive Communications, left a successful agency job without a plan. No funding. No safety net. Just a belief that he could build something better. But in his own words, he soon found himself doing too much out of obligation.

"I realised I was creating a job for myself, not a business that could grow without me."

Mark Nicholls, founder of Tectona Partnership, took a more measured route. With a background as a CFO, he built Tectona as a network of associates – not a traditional firm. It meant he could grow the business while keeping flexibility and control.
